The U.S. Census Bureau today released a special tabulation of exporting firms by demographic characteristics of employer businesses. This tabulation combines information from two Census Bureau data products - the Profile of U.S. Importing and Exporting Companies (Profile) and the Annual Business Survey (ABS) for reference year 2017.
The Profile is an annual database of commingled U.S. exports and business characteristics compiled from electronic export information filed through the Automated Export System. These data are received from Canada through the Data Exchange or by the shipper’s Export Declarations.
The ABS is an annual survey that provides information on selected economic characteristics by business owners’ sex, ethnicity, race, and veteran status. It is conducted jointly by the Census Bureau and the National Science Foundation’s National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics.
This combined data product will be produced annually as a supplement to the Profile and the ABS. The Census Bureau plans to release a special tabulation covering 2018 data later this summer.
