U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo marked the first anniversary of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passage by lauding what the current administration achieved before the midterms.
According to a Nov. 15 news release, President Joe Biden officially signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill into law Nov. 15, 2021. Raimondo called the law a "transformative investment that is already helping grow our economy and benefiting American workers and businesses."
"This bill embodies the administration's successful economic strategy – making transformational investments in infrastructure, innovation and communities across the country that will build U.S. competitiveness for the next century," Raimondo said in the release.
She noted how proud she was of the Commerce Department for "placing equity at the center of our work," the release reported. She also commented on the Department's efforts to deliver internet access to all Americans, make "historic investments in coastal resilience" and reduce barriers for minority businesses.
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration is using the Internet For All initiative to expand access and close the digital divide, and the Minority Business Development Agency is now "a permanent agency within the Commerce Department," the release reported.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is working to "increase resilience against climate change and extreme weather" by developing climate-ready infrastructure, the release reported.
"These investments will make an impact in areas of habitat restoration, coastal resilience and weather forecasting infrastructure, while simultaneously benefiting businesses across sectors such as agriculture, energy and transportation," Raimondo said in the release.
"I am immensely proud of the work from the leadership and staff of the Commerce Department over the past year, and we're just getting started," Raimondo said, according to the release. "I look forward to celebrating future milestones and continuing the vital work made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act."
