Poland revealed Westinghouse Electric will supply the technology for its new national nuclear power program.

The partnership with the Cranberry Township, Pa., corporation will support 62,500 American jobs and advance Poland’s transition to clean energy, according to a Nov. 18 Department of Commerce news release.

“I thank the government of Poland for turning to the United States as its partner in innovative solutions to address the climate crisis and increase energy security in Central Europe,” Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said in the release. “This partnership will provide immense long-term benefits to workers and businesses in both countries.”

The Commerce Department’s core mission involves advocating for U.S. workers and businesses, she said, and they are proud to provide it to companies in all sectors and of all shapes and sizes. She congratulated Westinghouse and state, federal and nongovernment economic development partners that worked for years to reach this point, the release reported.

The U.S. government has helped Westinghouse since the early 2000s in its efforts to secure the installation of AP1000 nuclear reactors in China, according to the release. Four of those reactors are breaking operational performance records, and another four are under construction.

As Westinghouse pursues additional sales throughout the world, including in Central and Eastern Europe, Ukraine and the United Kingdom, the Commerce Department said it will continue to support the company’s efforts, the release reported.
