House Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement commending the passage of bipartisan legislation that will strengthen the economy, set uniform national rules for transparency of online marketplaces, and protect American horses.
“Preserving American global economic leadership is critical to us winning the future. In order to do this, the U.S. needs to be encouraging investment here at home and setting clear national frameworks for technologies we rely on—especially since many of these technologies are increasingly collecting people’s online data. We applaud the bipartisan efforts of Reps. Upton, Schakowsky, Tonko, Cohen, and others for helping streamline access to information about federal manufacturing programs, increasing safety on online marketplaces, and protecting America’s horses.”
The following Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee bills were passed today with bipartisan support:
- The Manufacturing.gov Act (H.R. 6290), introduced by Reps. Paul Tonko (D-NY) and Fred Upton (R-MI), passed en bloc by a vote of 381-39.
- The PAST Act (H.R. 5441), introduced by Rep Steve Cohen and others, passed on the House Floor on Monday by a vote of 304-111.
- The INFORM Consumers Act (H.R. 5502), introduced by Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), passed en bloc by a vote of 381-39.
