Washington, D.C. - House Natural Resources Committee Chair Raúl M. Grijalva(D-Ariz.) today issued the following statement on the untimely passing of Rep. A. Donald McEachin (D-Va.). Rep McEachin has served as a member of the Committee since coming to Congress in 2017.

“It’s with great sorrow that I join the large chorus of people mourning the loss of our colleague and dear friend, Congressman McEachin. He was a man of great faith who set the standard for kindness and compassion. His memory will continue to serve as a towering reminder for us all of what building and empowering community voices looks like."

“Years ago, when Congressman McEachin and I first embarked on the journey to create legislation that would honor the right of every American to clean air, clean water, and a safe environment, we knew it wouldn’t be easy. But it was something Congressman McEachin had made his life’s work and his dedication never wavered, even through his own battle for his health. He leaves behind an immense legacy with his work on the Environmental Justice For All Act, the most significant environmental justice legislation in history, and I will do my best to usher that legacy forward in his spirit. It has been an honor to be part of his journey to bend the arc of the moral universe toward justice."

“On behalf of the House Committee on Natural Resources, we send our deepest sympathies to Congressman McEachin’s wife Colette, his children and grandchild, loved ones, and staff. He was a good man, a thoughtful and graceful leader, and he will be deeply missed."
