U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas issued a National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin regarding the continued heightened threat environment in the country.

This latest bulletin is the seventh of its kind released by the Department of Homeland Security since January 2021, and it replaces the prior bulletin that was set to expire Nov. 30. The new bulletin is currently set to expire May 24, according to a Nov. 30 news release.

“Our homeland continues to face a heightened threat environment — as we have seen, tragically, in recent acts of targeted violence— and is driven by violent extremists seeking to further a political or social goal or act on a grievance,” Mayorkas said in the release. “To keep Americans safe, DHS is committed to working with partners across every level of government, in the private sector and in local communities by sharing information, equipping communities with training and resources and providing millions of dollars in grant funding for security enhancement and prevention.”

According to the release, lone offenders and small groups motivated by a wide array of ideologies and/or personal grudges have been a consistent threat to the country. The DHS believes the threat level will remain high in the coming months and that the aforementioned parties may use a number of events to their advantage in justifying or committing violent acts.
