The United States regrets the call for today’s unprecedented vote. Adopting this resolution by consensus is a longstanding tradition in the Third Committee.
We applaud Mexico’s efforts to streamline and improve this resolution and ensure it reflects the complex challenges faced by governments today.
This text positions us well to advance international cooperation to address and counter the world drug problem. It is our strong hope that this is the first and last time the Third Committee votes on this text.
We hope we will all commit to working more constructively together, with a view to returning this text to consensus.
