SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Residents in the San Luis Obispo area will have the opportunity to enroll in the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) popular TSA Pre✓® program at the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport (SBP) for two weeks starting Oct. 23 and ending Nov. 3, 2017.
The application center will be located in an RV in the parking lot at SBP. It will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. On Friday, Nov. 3, the hours will be 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. only. The airport in San Luis Obispo is located at 901 Airport Drive.
The application process allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to enroll directly in TSA Pre✓® - an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on, in select TSA airport checkpoint screening lanes. More than 200 airports are participated in TSA Pre✓® nationwide and 37 airlines participate in the program.
Travelers can make an appointment online now by visiting tsa.gov. To begin the application process, type the location “San Lius Obispo" and click on the search button to select the airport enrollment site.
Applicants must make an in-person visit to the application center and bring documentation proving identity and citizenship status. Visit the Universal Enroll website for a list of accepted identity documents. Fingerprints will be collected during the in-person session.
The application fee is $85 and Trusted Traveler status is good for five years. It can be paid at the time of your appointment by credit card, money order, company check, or certified/cashier’s check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted. Walk-ins are permitted and will be accommodated around scheduled appointments.
After completing enrollment, successful applicants will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) via U.S. mail within a couple weeks that is valid for five years. The enrollee should enter the provided KTN in the “Known Traveler Number" field when booking airline reservations.
The KTN also can be added when booking reservations online via a participating airline website, via phone call to the airline reservation center, or with the travel management company making reservations. Additionally, the KTN can be entered in participating airline frequent flyer profiles, where it will be stored for future reservations.
Children 12 and under are permitted to use the TSA Pre✓® lane when traveling with a TSA Pre✓®- eligible parent or guardian.
Thirty-seven airlines participate in TSA Pre✓® and travelers departing a U.S. airport flying on any of those airlines are eligible for expedited screening. As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures both seen and unseen throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.
