A Bureau of Land Management employee with more than 20 years of experience in public service and natural resources is the new field manager in Bishop, Calif.
Sherri Lisius replaces Steve Nelson, who retired in December 2021, a Dec. 1 news release said.
“The Bishop field office manages some of the most spectacular public lands in the country, and I am really excited to take on this new role,” Lisius said in the release. “It is a great honor to be able to work with the communities of the eastern Sierra, our partners and the visitors to ensure these special places are available for the use and enjoyment of current and future generations.”
The Bishop Field Office manages 750,000 acres of Bureau of Land Management public lands, “emphasizing conservation, education and partnerships,” the office’s website said. It’s located in the eastern Sierra region of central California.
BLM Central California District Manager Chris Heppe Lisius’ wisdom, experience and collaborative leadership will benefit BLM California, according to the release.
“Her extensive knowledge of natural resource management and community partnerships in the eastern Sierra will benefit BLM’s multiple-use and sustained yield mission in the Bishop Field Office,” Heppe said in the release.
Lisius’ career highlights include guiding completion of the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area Management Plan and coordination of the Bi-State sage-grouse initiative, the release reported.
Before working for the Bureau of Land Management, Lisius was a wildlife biologist for the U.S. Forest Service at the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and the Tonto National Forest, according to the release. She worked at Yosemite National Park and Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park.
