Neal Celebrates House Passage of the Respect for Marriage Act

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Dec. 8. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC- Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Respect for Marriage Act:

“Today, Democrats’ fight to restore our nation’s faith in marriage equality heads to President Biden’s desk to become law. The Respect for Marriage Act rightfully ensures the federal government will never stand in the way of Americans’ right to marry whomever they choose. This is a landmark step forward in recognizing the dignity and equality of all, and another sign that hate and bigotry have no place here."
