BLM Newcastle to burn slash piles in Crook and Weston counties

The Bureau of Land Management Newcastle Field Office plans to burn slash piles this winter on BLM-administered lands in Crook and Weston counties. Burning may continue as conditions permit through April 2023.

All prescribed burn projects are conducted in accordance with approved burn plans and burning is contingent on fuel moisture and weather meeting appropriate treatment condition on site. Smoke may be visible from the surrounding areas during burning operations and days following as slash materials consume.

The purpose of the planned burns is to remove slash materials created from commercial timber harvest and hazardous fuels reduction projects in the field office. Project areas in Weston County include Sherwood, Beaver Stockade, Bear Run, and the Newcastle Fire Defense Zone, targeting approximately 1,500 acres. In Crook County, BLM will burn approximately 700 acres of slash piles in the Moore Canyon, Proctor, Jackpot, and Goldie Divide project areas.
