A nationally recognized expert in clean energy policy and programs is the new assistant secretary of energy.
Gene Rodrigues has more than 30 years, experience in the field, a Dec. 21 news release said. The U.S. Senate confirmed him Dec. 21.
“I am so grateful to the Senate for confirming Gene Rodrigues to serve as assistant secretary for electricity at DOE,” U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said in the release. “Gene joins our department at a critical moment in our effort to modernize our electric grid, strengthen our energy security and tackle the climate crisis.”
Granholm said Rodrigues has spent decades working with electric utilities and improving grid technology and has “exceptional insights” into delivering “clean, affordable, reliable power to every American,” according to the release.
Rodrigues was vice president of market development in the energy, environment and infrastructure practice at Inner City Fund International, a global advisory and digital services provider. He had 23 years experience at the electric utility Southern California Edison, the release reported.
“I am deeply grateful for Gene’s willingness to serve the American people, and we’re so excited to welcome him to DOE,” Granholm said in the release.
