Fletcher: Suppliers 'examples of the excellent support small and large businesses provide' to Hanford Site

More than a dozen suppliers to a waste-treatment plant at a decommissioned nuclear production complex were lauded for contributions to projects at the site, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced recently.

The Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) contractor team at the Hanford Site in Washington awarded 14 suppliers the Premier Supply Chain Contributor (PSCC) award, the DOE announced Dec. 20. Bechtel National Inc. (BN) created the award "to honor the incredible feats and support of its top contractors and plans to continue the tradition annually," according to the announcement. BN is "designing, building and commissioning the WTP," the announcement states.

“Excellent contractor and supplier relationships are essential to our collective success,” Frank Salaman, BN's manager of Procurement and Subcontracts, said in the announcement. "Suppliers are critical members of our team, and these businesses provide outstanding materials and service to the Direct-Feed Low-Activity Waste Program (DFLAW).”

DFLAW, "a system of interdependent projects and infrastructure improvements" that work together to vitrify low-activity waste from Hanford’s underground tanks. Treated waste is mixed with glass-forming material, melted and poured into containers that are taken to the site's disposal facility, according to the statement.

Representatives from recognized companies toured the plant and were able to see how their company contributed to successful progress at the WTP, the announcement states.

Suppliers presented with the PSCC award are ABB, Zurich, Switzerland; API Construction Co., New Brighton, Mn.; Apollo Mechanical Contractors, Kennewick, Wash.; Coleman Oil, Lewiston, Idaho; Flowserve Corp., Bethlehem, Pa.; GrayMar Environmental Services, Moses Lake, Wash.; Hitachi Energy USA Inc., Raleigh, N.C,; Howden Roots, Windsor, Conn.; Peerless Pumps, Indianapolis, Ind.; Petersen, Ogden, Utah; PumpTech, Bellevue, Wash.; R.E. Dupill, doing business as DG Nuclear, Leechburg, Pa.; TCI, Germantown, Wisc.; and Two Rivers Terminal, Pasco, Wash.

“Hanford contractors call upon suppliers from the across the country, and especially in our local area, to deliver their expertise in supporting the successful delivery of our mission,” Tom Fletcher, an assistant manager and federal project director for the WTP Project, said in the announcement.

“I am pleased to see the contributions of these companies recognized as examples of the excellent support small and large businesses provide the Hanford Site and our contractors,” Fletcher said.
