House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Nita Lowey (D-NY) and Military Construction-Veterans Affairs Subcommittee Ranking Member Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) released the following statement on funding for the VA MISSION Act in the fiscal year 2019 Military Construction-Veterans Affairs-Energy and Water-Legislative Branch minibus:
“For months, we have warned that Congress’ failure to find a permanent source of funding for the VA MISSION Act will squeeze other important domestic priorities, including veterans’ health care. While the worst effects of this failure are averted this year, the conferenced minibus lays bare the severity of this problem - especially in future years. Contrary to some arguments, the inclusion of report language does not offer a meaningful solution.
“It is deeply disappointing that we have been unable to address this issue with a bipartisan, bicameral compromise. We will continue to fight for a responsible, long-term solution to protect domestic priorities and veterans’ health care."
