House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) released the following statement on the retirement of Representative David Price (D-NC-04), Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies:

“Representative David Price is a distinguished public servant, and it has been my honor to call him a close friend for decades.

“I have known David since he lived in New Haven while studying theology and political science at Yale University. His friendship with the DeLauro Family was cemented when his wife Lisa served alongside my mother Luisa on the New Haven Board of Aldermen.

“Befitting his background as an expert in public policy, Representative Price has been a hardworking, thoughtful, and principled legislator. He is a master of his brief, and my colleagues and I have consistently drawn on his unparalleled knowledge and wise counsel. His scholarly work on the institution of the Congress and how it works reflect his deep interest in making government work for the people. He has shone a light on the institution for future generations.

“His leadership on the Appropriations Committee, in both his current role and previously as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee, has reflected his commitment to the safety and well-being of the American people. As Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee since 2019, Representative Price has led the way to address our nation’s affordable housing crisis and rebuild our infrastructure to ensure safety while creating good-paying jobs and fostering inclusive economic growth.

“Representative Price has also demonstrated visionary leadership on the world stage. His work leading the House Democracy Partnership has helped promote effective government and strengthened democratic institutions around the world.

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with David for the rest of the 117th Congress, and wish him, Lisa, and their family well as they prepare to begin this new chapter."
