Readout: Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with President Maia Sandu of Moldova

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with President of Moldova Maia Sandu. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Sandu discussed the impacts on Moldova of Russia’s war against Ukraine, including on Moldova’s energy grid, as well as the urgent need for the UN and other humanitarian actors to prepare to meet growing humanitarian needs this winter.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield praised Moldova’s extraordinary efforts to welcome refugees from Ukraine and underscored the United States’ continued commitment to help manage the refugee crisis and to help Moldova and Ukraine meet critical energy needs this winter.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Sandu also discussed efforts to strengthen Moldova’s democratic institutions and U.S. support for Moldova’s anti-corruption and reform agenda.
