Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud

U.S. Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to welcome him to the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. 

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Mohamud discussed the United States’ support to address food insecurity in Somalia, as well as broader efforts to support the government’s initiatives to restore services to areas liberated from al-Shabaab. 

The Ambassador and President Mohamud also discussed the international community’s sustained commitment to assisting the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to develop capable, professional, and accountable forces to hold territory and assume responsibility for security as the AU Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) draws down in the coming years.
