Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the appointment of 32 leaders from organizations from the domestic travel and tourism industry to the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board.

The board’s responsibility is to inform the secretary of how government policies and programs affect the travel and tourism industry. They also offer counsel on how to support the sustainable growth of the travel and tourism industry, according to a press release issued Jan. 12.

“Travel and tourism returned with force in 2022 as we opened up our country once again to visitors from around the globe,” Raimondo said, according to the release.

Since the start of President Joe Biden's administration, the Commerce Department has taken action to support the industry’s recovery, she said, the release reported. The board provides expert recommendations and industry insight to optimize the American travel experience.

The board was chartered nine times after its initial chartering in 2003. Past boards have provided advice on issues such as the facilitation of travel, visa policy and infrastructure. The membership for the 2023-2024 term of the board includes representatives of state and regional economic development teams, businesses and other entities related to the industry.
