Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits
About 17 species of oaks are found in the Chisos Mountains. They can be difficult to identify due to their tendency to hybridize between species. Several notable species along this trail include Emory oak, gray oak, and Graves oak. A number of birds and mammals eat the acorns from these oaks including black bears, deer, javelina, squirrels, acorn woodpeckers, and Mexican jays.
