Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits
Evergreen sumac has shiny green leaves virtually year-round. It is not a true evergreen, as its leaves are green through the winter, then are dropped, to be replaced with a new crop. Its fragrant white flowers attract bees and butterflies in late summer, and birds and other wildlife eat the fuzzy red-orange berries in the fall. Indigenous peoples made a drink from the tart berries.
