The U.S. Economic Development Administration awarded a $958,960 grant to Henry County, Virginia, to extend local water and sewer services to support business and job growth.
The grant is expected to match with $241,040 in local funds and create 36 jobs, retain 31 jobs and generate $21 million in private investment, according to a Jan. 26 news release.
“The Economic Development Administration is pleased to support Henry County as it works to diversify and grow the region’s economy. This project will provide critical infrastructure upgrades that are needed to spur business growth and job creation in Virginia,” Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Castillo said in the release.
The project includes the construction of a pump station, sewer line and other improvements, the release reported.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin said Henry County’s job growth will be invigorated with the help of this grant and its economic growth will be accelerated. That will open opportunities that attract more businesses, young people and families, according to the release.
“This significant federal funding to improve the county’s water and sewer system and support local manufacturing will go a long way in creating new opportunities for jobs and economic development in the county. I look forward to seeing this money positively impact the area for years to come,” Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith said, according to the release.
