A Texas man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for causing serious bodily injury to an infant.

Connor Flores Jimenez, 28, of the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Reservation near Eagle Pass, was sentenced in early February in federal court in Del Rio, Texas, a news release said. Jimenez pleaded guilty Feb. 8, 2021, to severely injuring his 2-month-old baby in April 2019.

“This horrific crime of assaulting and causing serious harm to an innocent, young child — along with the defendant’s actions toward his spouse — is very obviously deserving of a lengthy sentence,” U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza said in the release. “Thank you to our partners at the federal, local and Tribal levels who helped investigate and put this defendant somewhere where he can’t cause further harm. I also thank the medical personnel for their response and a job well done.”

According to the release, the infant sustained two skull fractures, brain swelling, femoral fractures in both legs and a broken rib. Jimenez is also reported to have choked his wife, leaving her unconscious for more than two hours.

Jimenez has been in federal custody since his arrest in May 2019, the release reported.

Special Agent in Charge Oliver Rich Jr., of the FBI San Antonio Division, said the “FBI condemns violence of all kinds,” according to the release.

“This sentence sends a strong message that violence of this sort will not be tolerated,” Rich said in the release. “We would like to thank the FBI agents, victim specialists and our partners from the U.S. Marshals Service, Maverick County Sheriff’s Office and the Kickapoo Tribal Police for their assistance this case.”
