Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield Hosts First Ever Black History Month Concert at UN General Assembly Hall
Ambassador Linda Thomas- Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, is celebrating Black History Month by hosting a concert live from UN Headquarters on Monday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m. EST. This will be the first ever concert in honor of Black History Month held at the United Nations General Assembly Hall. This is also the United States Military Academy Band’s first concert in the UN General Assembly Hall.
“I am so delighted that we can come together in a spirit of progress and unity to enjoy the gift of these extraordinary musicians,” said Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield. “For me, and for so many African Americans, music is a connection to our history, in all its richness and diversity.”
The concert is organized in partnership with the United States Military Academy at West Point and will feature the West Point Band and the West Point Cadet Glee Club. The West Point Band is the U.S. Army’s oldest active band and the oldest unit at the United States Military Academy, tracing its roots to the American Revolutionary War.
The concert will celebrate the contributions of Black American composers and musicians. The musical program will flow through a journey of unity, diversity, and hope, to honor the progress that the United States has made toward equal rights.
