USDA Requests Comments on State Agencies in Alabama and Washington Delegated to Provide Official Grain Inspection Services

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is asking for comments on the quality of services provided by the following Delegated State Agencies: Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries and the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Under the U.S. Grain Standards Act, delegated states may provide mandatory official grain inspection, weighing, and scale testing services at export port locations within their respective State. AMS reevaluates and recertifies delegated states every 5 years in accordance with the Act.

AMS’s Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) is seeking comments on the quality of services provided by the state agencies in the following areas:

  • Alabama: All export port locations in the state.
  • Washington: All export port locations in the state.
Information and instructions for submitting comments were published in the Federal Register on March 9, 2023. Comments must be received by April 10, 2023. Comments are used as part of the reevaluation and recertification process.
