The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is issuing two environmental assessments prior to the field testing of vaccines to prevent and control white-nose syndrome in bats. These vaccines will be tested by the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Wildlife Health Center. One vaccine is genetically altered to express two Pseudogymnoascus destructans proteins, while the other vaccine is genetically altered to express four Pseudogymnoascus destructans proteins.
