The U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration will award a $1.3 million grant to Paris Economic Development Corporation, in Texas, for infrastructure improvements at Northwest Industrial Park.
The grant will be matched with $552,344 in local funds and is expected to create 40 jobs and generate $30 million in private investment, according to an April 4 news release. The improvements include water and roadway upgrades to support current businesses and future development in the area.
“President Biden is continuing to invest in America, getting communities in Texas and across the country the resources they need to boost their local economies. This EDA investment will support business growth and manufacturing in Paris, create jobs and spur additional private investment in the local economy," Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said in the release.
Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo said the project will boost capacity and support business growth at the Northwest Industrial Park, bringing new jobs to the region as a result, the release reported.
“The Economic Development Administration is pleased to support local efforts to create new economic opportunities and jobs," Castillo said in the release.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said this increase in jobs and economic opportunity comes as new water and roadway upgrades will encourage more businesses to expand in Paris, according to the release.
“Infrastructure improvements are a key component to the success of a growing economy, and I thank the Economic Development Administration for awarding the Paris Economic Development Corporation this grant to help the Northwest Industrial Park thrive," Abbott said in the release.
According to the release, the EDA strives to promote competitiveness and prepare regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy. In doing this, they invest in communities and support regional collaboration to "create jobs for U.S. workers, promote American innovation and accelerate long-term sustainable economic growth."
