Apple officially unveiled iOS 17 June 5.
This release is reportedly a significant update that enhances the phone, FaceTime and messaging experiences; makes sharing simpler with AirDrop; and offers more intelligent input that increases typing speed and accuracy, according to the announcement news release.
“With iOS 17, we’ve made iPhone more personal and intuitive by deeply considering the features we all rely on every day," Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering, said in the release. "Phone, FaceTime and messages are central to how we communicate, and this release is packed with updates we think our users are going to love. We’ve also reimagined AirDrop with new ways to share, autocorrect gets even better and we’re introducing all-new experiences with Journal and StandBy, plus so much more."
Journal, an app that makes it simple to practice thankfulness, and StandBy, a new way to access glanceable information when iPhone is placed down and charging, are additional new features included in iOS 17, the release reported.
"The Phone app, which is essential to the iPhone experience, gets a significant boost with customized Contact Posters, giving users a new means of self-expression," the release said.
More customization is available, according to the release. Users will be able to change their appearance, give incoming calls a new look and select photo or memoji treatments and vibrant type and font colors. Additionally, contact posters will be accessible for third-party calling apps.
For live voicemail, users will have the option to answer the call while the the caller is leaving the voicemail, the release reported. Users can also see a real-time transcription of the message as it is being left. These transcriptions are confidential thanks to the Neural Engine's strength. Calls that are flagged as spam will be rejected right away instead of going to voicemail.
FaceTime now allows users to send audio and video messages to callers who are not immediately present, allowing them to exchange a message that can be listened to or watched later, the release said. FaceTime conversations can now include reactions like hearts, balloons, fireworks, laser beams, rain and more to make them more expressive. Simple motions may be used to activate the new effects, and third-party video calling apps can make use of them as well.
The largest screen in the house can now be used for FaceTime, according to the release. With the help of the continuity camera, customers can make a video call directly from Apple TV or start it on their iPhone before transferring it to Apple TV so they can view their loved ones on their television.
Users will be able to roam about with excellent framing thanks to Center Stage, the release said.
"We can’t wait for everyone to try it," Federighi said in the release.
