Apple recently announced the release of the first 15-inch MacBook Air.

The new MacBook Air combines power and portability in the thinnest 15-inch laptop in the world thanks to its broad 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display, M2 performance, up to 18 hours of battery life and a silent, fanless design, according to a June 5 news release.

“We’re thrilled to introduce the first 15-inch MacBook Air. With its incredible performance and striking design, the new MacBook Air is the world’s best 15-inch laptop," John Ternus, senior vice president of hardware engineering at Apple, said in the release. "And it’s only possible with Apple silicon. From its expansive Liquid Retina display and remarkably thin and fanless design, to extraordinary battery life and an immersive six-speaker sound system, the new MacBook Air has it all."

The 15-inch MacBook Air offers an unmatched experience with an all-new six-speaker sound system, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, MagSafe charging and the strength and simplicity of macOS Ventura, the release reported. Customers can place orders now, and products will be delivered starting June 13.

The new MacBook Air has a large, high-resolution 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display, the release said. The Liquid Retina display's up to 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colors produce content that is rich and vibrant along with typography that is incredibly sharp. In addition, it has a 25% brighter screen and double the resolution of a comparable PC laptop.

The new MacBook Air is the thinnest 15-inch laptop in the world, measuring only 11.5 mm thick, according to the release. It is easily portable due to its  weight of 3.3 pounds.

The new MacBook Air is sturdy and reliable despite having a large display, the release said. Additionally, it is half a pound lighter and almost 40% slimmer than a comparable PC laptop.

Additionally, the release describes the MacBook Air as having a 3.5 mm headphone jack for flexible connectivity, two Thunderbolt ports for attaching accessories, an external display up to 6K in resolution and MagSafe charging. It is available in four  finishes: silver, midnight, starlight and space gray.

The 15-inch MacBook Air performs well thanks to the M2 chip, according to the release. Compared to the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air, it is up to 12 times faster. The new MacBook Air is up to twice as fast as the most popular 15-inch PC laptop with a Core i7 chip.

Even with a bigger display and better performance, it offers an exceptional battery life of up to 18 hours, which is 50% longer than on a PC, the release said.

The 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 now has a starting price of $1,099, which is $100 cheaper than it was previously, according to the release.
