Microsoft's Borden: Partnership will combine 'world-class insights from Moody’s with the capabilities, trust and breadth of Microsoft Cloud'

A collaboration between Microsoft and Moody's Corporation was announced June 29 to combine Moody's data and analytics with Microsoft AI to develop products and services for financial services and global knowledge workers. The partnership is expected to "transform productivity and collaboration," according to a Microsoft official.

Bill Borden, Microsoft's vice president of corporate vice president of worldwide financial services, said the companies are excited about the "opportunities and value" the enterprise will provide to banking, capital markets and insurance, as well as manufacturing, telecommunications, transportation and utilities.

“Our partnership will bring together world-class insights from Moody’s with the capabilities, trust and breadth of Microsoft Cloud — including Azure OpenAI Service, Fabric and Teams — to enable next-gen solutions that will unlock powerful business intelligence and transform productivity and collaboration," Borden said in the announcement.

Moody’s Corporation is a global integrated risk assessment firm that empowers organizations to find opportunities and manage risks by providing data, insights, and solutions. The company states it promotes the idea "that greater transparency, more informed decisions, and fair access to information open the door to shared progress," according to its website.

The partnership leverages the strengths of Moody's comprehensive data and analytical capabilities with the power and reach of Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service, according to the news release. The joint effort "creates innovative offerings that enhance insights into corporate intelligence and risk assessment, powered by Microsoft AI and anchored by Moody’s proprietary data, analytics, and research."

Customers will be able to use the newly developed Moody's Research Assistant to develop better risk perspectives, according to the release.

"Built on Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and available through multiple channels, including Microsoft Teams, Moody’s Research Assistant will quickly compile and summarize complex information from multiple data sources, all in a safe and secure environment that protects private and proprietary information," the release states.

The partnership also allows Moody's to use Microsoft Teams as a new platform for communication and productivity for its employees and clients. The integration of Moody's co-pilot tools within Teams will automate workflows, offer better access to data, and consolidate information from a variety of data sets. This integration, says the release, will lead to superior insights, efficiency, and overall experience for both customers and employees.

Rob Fauber, Moody's president and CEO, said in the release that the firm has mobilized its 14,000 global employees to "drive unprecedented experimentation and ignite new innovations across our suite of products and solutions" and that Moody's is "excited to partner with Microsoft to set the standard for how generative AI will pioneer new advancements across our industry."

“Generative AI represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to enhance how companies navigate the ever-evolving world of exponential risk," Fauber said in the release. "By combining Microsoft’s cutting-edge AI capabilities with our proprietary data, research and analytics, Moody’s is positioned to lead the next generation of risk analysis, helping our customers make better decisions by unlocking deeper, more integrated, and unmatched perspectives on risk."
