In a June 26 news release, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management Colorado office announced a new hire. Abdelgadir (AG) Elmandani has joined the state office as the deputy state director of Energy, Lands, and Minerals.

“We are looking forward to benefitting from Elmandani's expertise on our BLM Colorado leadership team," Doug Vilsack, BLM Colorado state director, said in a release. "With his qualifications and experience, he will provide critical leadership in our energy, lands and minerals programs and foster relationships with partners around the state.”

The release noted Elmandani participated in the BLM Leadership Academy Class of 2023.

The news release explained that Elmadani is coming to the Colorado State BLM office from the California office. In California, he was the associate deputy state director for Fluids and Minerals. In his new role in Colorado, Elmadani will be responsible for lands and realty actions and the non-renewable and renewable energy programs.

Ark Valley Voice noted Elmadani may get involved in the “The Heat Beneath Our Feet” geothermal energy initiative.

"I am looking forward to leading the team of professionals in BLM Colorado and contributing to what makes our public lands great while serving the American public,” Elmadani said in the news release.

The Western Governors Association explained that "The Heat Beneath Our Feet” will look into the various market, technology, and policy factors related to geothermal energy.

According to Elmandani’s LinkedIn page, he worked at BLM for eight years and five months, including one year and six months as acting fluid minerals section chief in Denver, Colo., and two years, one month as lead petroleum engineer on the Measurement and Production Team, also in Denver. He also worked as a petroleum engineer in Washington, D.C., and New Mexico.

His LinkedIn profile also shows he earned two bachelor’s degrees from Pennsylvania State University in 2009. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government.

Outside of work, Elmandani enjoys hiking, horseback riding, biking, and playing soccer with his family of three children.

In a June 26 Facebook post, the BLM Colorado State Office welcomed Elmandani to the team. The text of the post included a link to the news release announcing the hire, and also said this: “The Bureau of Land Management Colorado State Office welcomes Elmadani, Elmadani is taking on the role of deputy state director for Energy, Lands, and Minerals! We are excited to welcome him to the BLM Colorado team."

BLM noted it manages approximately 245 million acres of public land.

There are 8.3 million acres of public land and more than 27 million acres of minerals that the U.S. BLM’s Colorado office is responsible for managing, according to the state office’s website. These lands are managed with a variety of strategies, for public and commercial use.
