Operators and owners of data centers will need to respond by the extended survey deadline of September 30 for their data centers to be included in the updated U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 1-100 ENERGY STAR scores, a press release issued by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) said.

"Sustainability and energy efficiency are core to The Green Grid’s mission. TGG is eager to continue its partnership with the U.S. EPA and continue our work to update the EPA ENERGY STAR score for data centers,” said Erica Thomas, ITI’s Director of The Green Grid. “We encourage all data center owners and operators to take advantage of this deadline extension and participate in the survey, and help in enabling data center efficiency and industry innovation.”

Submission of the survey is voluntary. The EPA ENERGY STAR Score system supports the data center industry's mission to improve resource and energy efficiency, which are essential to the global fight against climate change, the ITI press release said. The survey data is anonymized before it is sent to the EPA, ITI said.

TGG works throughout the world to develop analysis, tools and technical expertise to promote the optimization of data center energy and resource productivity.

Scores from a multitude and variety of data centers, including big data center facilities, edge, modular, and containerized data centers, are important to the survey.

The EPA ENERGY STAR accreditation is given to motivate operators of data centers to improve performance and energy efficiency. The survey can be found here: https://www.thegreengrid.org/en/tgg-us-epa-survey-submission-information. One survey response per data center facility is permitted for submission.
