According to a press release, industry trade group for technology ITI applauded the Biden Administration for launching the voluntary U.S. Cyber Trust Mark cybersecurity certification and labeling program, which aims to increase the security and reduce the susceptibility of smart devices to assaults. At a roundtable discussion at the White House on July 18, 2023, ITI President and CEO Jason Oxman will reaffirm the support of the IT sector for the initiative.

The Biden Administration's introduction of the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark, a voluntary cybersecurity certification and labeling scheme aimed at making smart products more safe and less susceptible to cyberattacks, was warmly received by the international tech trade association ITI on July 18.

“The administration’s new U.S. Cyber Trust Mark will play an important role in equipping consumers with the tools necessary to protect themselves while helping to facilitate greater confidence and trust," Oxman said. "ITI and our member companies look forward to working with the administration and other stakeholders to promote consumer awareness and foster adoption of the label and advance a safe and resilient Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem for all consumers.”

Governments all around the world are thinking about implementing cybersecurity labeling as a way to better understand and convey security aspects in ICT products and services in order to enhance confidence, assurance, and trust in such products and services. In order to promote market competition based on security, develop trust, and assist end users in upholding security, it is important to provide end users with clear information about companies' adherence to cybersecurity standards as well as specific topics like the security features/functionality in devices or services.

ITI has long been a global innovator in cybersecurity legislation. Since a few years ago, cybersecurity certification and labeling have been important priorities, along with IoT security, including those of smart devices. Three unique sets of policy guidelines, the first of their type, were recently released by ITI to assist stakeholders and policymakers in better ensuring the security of the IoT ecosystem and in understanding how to effectively use tools like certification and labeling to improve cybersecurity. Policymakers should refer to the following documents:  Security Policy Principles, Policy Principles for Cybersecurity Certification, and Cybersecurity Labeling.
