FBI Miami said that China continues to rob intelligence from the US and infiltrate and undermine U.S. academic institutions' integrity. In a July 30 post on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, FBI Miami posted a warning and attached a link to its website, where they provided more details on the Chinese threat.
"China is stealing our intellectual property and compromising the integrity of our academic institutions. Learn more about the China Threat," FBI Miami wrote in the post.
According to the FBI website, the Chinese government and Communist Party pose a grave threat to the U.S. through counterintelligence, economic espionage and influence tactics. The website said that confronting this threat is the FBI's top priority. The FBI emphasized that the target is not the Chinese people but an authoritarian government seeking global dominance through predatory practices and cyber intrusions. A comprehensive response involving businesses, academia and the public is needed to counter the threat effectively.
A recent Federal Newswire report states Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) called on the Department of Justice to take action against the "Overseas Chinese Service Centers" (OCSCs), which she believes are Chinese surveillance centers. She also raised concerns about the Chinese surveillance balloon, Confucius institutes and other forms of what she termed "soft propaganda."
In a recent post on X, Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) said, “Sensitive U.S. technology in the hands of Communist China is a national security threat. That’s why I introduced the China Technology Transfer Control Act.”
According to a press release, Green said that his China Technology Transfer Control Act “controls U.S. exports of certain technology and intellectual property important to U.S. national interests to the People’s Republic of China.” He said that “There’s no question about it; the Chinese Communist Party wants a weakened United States and an international order subservient to China’s interests. Turning a blind eye to this aggressive ambition on the world stage is a catastrophic mistake.”
