Hudson Institute China Center Director Miles Yu said Taiwan received "a lot of attention" from nations like Japan after a 7.4 magnitude earthquake devastated the country.
"One of the really amazing phenomena of the earthquake is the outpouring of condolences, expressions of concerns, from all over the world," Yu said on a recent edition of the China Insider Podcast. "I know this is not a good, happy occasion for getting attention, but Taiwan did get a lot of attention."
"And if you look at the Japanese Prime Minister, he sent a very long and moving message to the Taiwanese government as well as Taiwanese people, because Japan also suffered tremendously from the earthquake and tsunamis," Yu said. "Taiwanese society was always among the first, if not the first, to reach out a hand of help. Japanese people are not forgetful, so every time you have this kind of disaster, Japan is always on the frontline helping the Taiwanese people and government, and vice versa."
The April 9 episode of the podcast focused on the impact of the recent 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan, as well as security development in the South China Sea.
