U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently reported that drugs were discovered and confiscated in a vehicle attempting to cross the border, according to a press release. The incident occurred at the Calexico West Port of Entry at the U.S-Mexico border and the haul was hidden in various places within a pickup truck.

The press release states that a man driving in a 2020 pickup truck was seeking entrance into the United States when an officer at the initial inspection requested a closer examination of his vehicle during which it was discovered that drugs were hidden in various places inside the truck. The 235.37 pounds of methamphetamine were found to be spread all throughout the vehicle, including the tailgate, the engine bay and the spare tire. According to the release, the street value of the drugs was estimated to be $235,370.

The drugs, stored in 200 separate packages, according to the release, were seized along with the truck, and Homeland Security Investigations detained the driver.

In the release, Port Director Roque Caza highlighted the work of Border Patrol officers, stating that they continue to prevail in their work despite smugglers’ often ingenious methods of disguise.

This incident is not the only one of its kind. According to an article from Federal Newswire, Border Patrol agents recently confiscated a massive load of cocaine along the Rio Grande River, also being smuggled by a pickup truck.

According to its website, U.S. Customs and Border Protection employs over 60,000 people, making it among the largest law enforcement agencies in the world. As an organization, they strive to combat terrorism, protect the border and facilitate travel and trade.
