Austin: 'We'll continue to work with our allies & partners to support Ukraine's immediate battlefield'

The U.S. Department of Defense announced a $200 million security assistance package for Ukraine, marking the 44th tranche of aid since August 2021, according to an Aug. 14 news release.

"Today, we announced additional security assistance to help Ukraine to defend itself from Russia's unprovoked war of aggression," Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. "We'll continue to work with our allies & partners to support Ukraine's immediate battlefield needs & longer-term security assistance requirements."

The assistance aims to meet Ukraine's critical defense needs as it continues to face Russia's ongoing war of aggression, the news release reported.

The details outlined in the release include a diverse array of equipment valued at up to $200 million. The package comprises munitions for Patriot air defense systems; ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems; mine clearing equipment and systems; 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds; 120mm tank ammunition; Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided missiles; Javelin and other anti-armor systems and rockets; 37 tactical vehicles to tow and haul equipment; 58 water trailers; more than 12 million rounds of small arms ammunition and grenades; demolitions munitions for obstacle clearing; and spare parts, maintenance and other field equipment.

Since the start of the Biden administration, the U.S. has committed more than $43.7 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, according to a fact sheet. Of this amount, more than $43 billion has been pledged since Russia's invasion began Feb. 24, 2022.

The release emphasizes the U.S.' unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, reaffirming the nation's role as a key partner in maintaining regional stability.

The fact sheet continues to place the U.S. at the forefront of international efforts to support Ukraine in its ongoing struggle against Russian aggression.
