The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has taken a significant step towards enhancing domestic manufacturing of rare earth magnets with a $94.1 million investment in E-VAC Magnetics, LLC. Rare earth magnets are essential components in national defense applications like F-35 fighter jets and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), as well as various commercial industries. This funding aims to strengthen the U.S.'s rare earth magnet production capabilities and establish a reliable, domestic supply chain.

Dr. Laura Taylor-Kale, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy, emphasized the strategic importance of this investment. She stated that it builds upon previous DoD investments and aims to establish an integrated, domestic rare earth supply chain from mine to magnet. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the DoD to ensure a dependable supply chain for key materials that are crucial for both military and civilian sectors.

As a subsidiary of the VAC Group, E-VAC Magnetics plans to utilize the funding for various purposes. This includes procuring and installing advanced manufacturing equipment, developing essential technical infrastructure, and creating new production lines. With these investments, the company aims to achieve high-volume production by 2025, contributing to the overall goal of boosting domestic manufacturing capabilities for rare earth magnets.
