On September 27, 2023, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) published its 2023 Civil Engineering Salary Report. The report indicates that the future is bright for civil engineers in the United States. The findings of the poll, which were derived from the responses of more than 3,200 members, indicate that earnings in the field of civil engineering have climbed at a more rapid rate and are currently worth more than they did in previous years.

From 2022 to 2023, civil engineers saw a growth of almost 7% in their base pay, which resulted in an increase in the average annual wage to a respectable $128,000. This rise is much higher when compared to the increases of 6% that are projected between 2021 and 2022 and the increases of 5% that are seen between 2020 and 2021. The principal income of a licensed civil engineer is about $132,000 per year on average. This is $30,000 more than the typical income for a civil engineer who does not hold a license.

According to forecasts made by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a strong need for civil engineers. The President of the ASCE, Maria C. Lehman, P.E., ENV SP, NAC, F.ASCE, emphasized that this demand "will continue for the next decade." The demand will continue to exist despite the fact that the majority of our infrastructure is in disrepair and that more resources are being allocated to fixing it.

The field of civil engineering has a relatively high proportion of satisfied employees. Since 2022, the number of individuals who are either content or highly satisfied with their wage has climbed to a percentage that is now greater than 66 percent. It is a testimonial to the beneficial effect that civil engineers have on society that eighty-five point two percent of civil engineers say they are pleased with the jobs that they hold.
