According to a press release, Deputy Secretary Adeyemo announced that the Department of the Treasury is taking new measures against the fentanyl supply chain. Speaking at a press conference, Adeyemo stated, "We will continue to work with our international partners, the private sector, and across the U.S. government to bring all our tools to bear against this deadly ecosystem."

In an announcement shared on October 3, Deputy Secretary Adeyemo highlighted the department's efforts in combating the illicit drug trade. He stated, "We have been able to block the supply of lethal narcotics that take far too many American lives each year thanks to the hardworking team's support. On 28 people and organizations that are heavily involved in the illegal drug trade and importing lethal drugs like fentanyl and xylazine into the United States, we are imposing significant additional sanctions today."

As part of these measures, all U.S. citizens are prohibited from transacting with these individuals and organizations. These entities have locations throughout the People's Republic of China and Canada. Additionally, the use of the U.S. banking system by these individuals and organizations is also forbidden. In a significant move, a dozen virtual currency wallets linked to these individuals have been identified and blocked. This action demonstrates the extent of the operation being targeted.

Deputy Secretary Adeyemo emphasized the commitment of the personnel at the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the IRS Criminal Investigations division, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. He stated, "This action reflects the most recent development in our ongoing efforts to break up the financial networks that support the illicit drug trade on a global scale."

Adeyemo issued a strong message to those involved in the illegal drug trade, saying, "The Department of the Treasury is ruthlessly focused on finding and freezing the assets of individuals who benefit from a commodity that destroys families and communities across our country." He further added, "Now, in addition to the offenders themselves, we'll go after their friends, relatives, and coworkers who profit from the selling of these substances. Rest assured that if you participated in this unlawful action, we will also pursue your assets."

The Treasury's new measures against the fentanyl supply chain demonstrate the government's determination to combat the illegal drug trade and protect American lives. Through collaboration with international partners, the private sector, and various U.S. government agencies, the Treasury aims to dismantle the financial networks that support this deadly ecosystem.
