The United States Department of Energy (DOE) recently made public the names of the eighteen states and tribal governments that would share in a total of $167.7 million in Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants.

This encompasses a total of twenty tribal nations in addition to eleven states and two territories. According to a press statement, these funds will be used to boost the reliability of the electricity sector, upgrade the electrical grid, and respond to climate-induced extreme weather and natural disasters.

The formula is known as the Tribal Formula. A mechanism that takes into account demographics, sensitivity to disruptive events, and previous investments in readiness and adaptation is used to determine which particular states, territories, Tribes, and certain Alaska Native entities are eligible to receive grants. Grants are distributed across the country. According to the release, the grantees intend to use the money for a wide variety of projects, with a particular focus on those that are beneficial to the communities in which they are located and that promote environmentally friendly and economically viable energy sources.

Jennifer M. Granholm, the Secretary of Energy for the United States, was quoted as saying in a press release that "A modern, reliable grid is a critical feature to expanding access and use of clean power sources." It has been asserted that "President Biden's Investing in America agenda is providing states and Tribes with historic funding to prepare for a more resilient, clean energy future, one that delivers more local jobs and ensures that the lights stay on in the face of extreme weather events."

As a result of the Investing in America program, more than 748 million dollars have been given to various state governments and tribal organizations. According to a press release issued by the Grid Deployment Office of the Department of Energy, the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants program will award a total of $2.3 billion over the course of the next five years. The money for this program will come from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
