According to a survey conducted Prosper Insights & Analytics at the behest of the National Retail Federation (NRF) this year's average is a $42 increase over 2022
The findings of a survey that was carried out by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Prosper Insights & Analytics and made public on the 20th of October indicate that the typical American intends to spend $875 on Christmas gifts, decorations, and meals.
Matthew Shay, President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Retail Federation, was quoted as saying in a press release that "the winter holidays are an important tradition to many American families, and shoppers are prioritizing their holiday purchases for the people who are most important to them."
According to a press statement issued by the NRF, the study indicated that consumers plan to spend an average of $620 on gifts while spending an average of $255 on holiday-themed goods. 43% of customers start their hunt for a new couch before November in order to spread out their spending, lower their stress levels, and avoid the crowds. Phil Rist, the senior vice president of strategy at Prosper, stated that "seven out of ten holiday shoppers say they are considering taking advantage of October sales events this year."
According to the findings of the NRF, shoppers still place a higher value on gift cards than they do on clothes (49%), which comes in second place. In the meantime, 62% of people who shop think that special deals and discounts are more significant to them this year than they were the year before.
In a survey that was performed by the National Retail Federation between October 2nd and October 9th, the organization got responses from a total of 8,103 adult consumers. The overall sample has a margin of error that is equal to 1.1 percentage points.
