According to Governor Greg Abbott's posts on X, Texas is building its own border wall in the absence of support from the federal government.
"Texas is the first – and ONLY – state in U.S. history to build our own border wall," stated Governor Abbott.
In line with the information provided in a press release from Governor Greg Abbott's office, Texas has taken substantial measures to secure its border due to a lack of federal support. Governor Abbott, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas National Guard, is focused on halting drug smuggling, weapon trafficking, and unauthorized entry of individuals into the state. These initiatives come under Operation Lone Star, a multi-agency operation aimed at criminal interdiction between ports of entry.
According to the details disclosed in a press release from Oct. 20, Operation Lone Star has resulted in the apprehension of over 479,000 undocumented immigrants and led to more than 35,500 criminal arrests. Additionally, Texas law enforcement agencies have seized over 434 million lethal doses of fentanyl since the inception of the border mission.
Governor Abbott has frequently updated the public about the border wall's progress. On Oct. 15, he indicated that Texas was extending its barriers to the New Mexico border near El Paso to deter migrants from crossing there.
Earlier on X, the Governor had affirmed Texas' commitment to building the wall to stop illegal entries into the state and encouraged federal action on the issue.
As stated in the press release, beyond securing its own borders, Texas has also been involved in transporting migrants to different cities across the United States. To date, more than 59,000 migrants have been transported to various urban centers as part of the broader objectives of Operation Lone Star.
