Google announced its AI Opportunity Agenda, presenting policy recommendations for governments worldwide that they believe ensure the broadest possible distribution of artificial intelligence's advantages. The company's outline aims to serve as a framework for governments worldwide in developing and managing AI technology.

The initiative arrives amid global efforts to shape AI governance, including the G7's new international code of conduct for responsible AI and the United Nations AI Advisory Body. This movement gained momentum with the Biden Administration's recent Executive Order.

Google & Alphabet's President of Global Affairs, Kent Walker emphasized the need for a balanced approach in AI regulation, stressing the importance of mitigating risks while maximizing opportunities for economic and societal advancement. 

"It’s time to widen the aperture on this work," Walker said. "Our AI efforts will need to include both guardrails to mitigate potential risks and initiatives to maximize progress — promoting economic productivity and solving big social challenges." 

"Let’s focus not only on harms to avoid and risks to mitigate, but on opportunities to seize."

The agenda focuses on three pillars: enhancing AI infrastructure and innovation, building an AI-ready workforce, and maximizing AI accessibility and adoption. 

It further underscored the significance of public-private collaboration in exploiting AI's potential across various sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, and economic productivity. Google & Alphabet said they are keen to work with governments and civil society to forge an AI-driven future that is inclusive and beneficial for all.
