Border Patrol agents in El Paso recovered a dozen illegal migrants left behind by human smugglers.

"USBP's El Paso Confined Space Entry Team discovered 12 undocumented subjects in a storm drain," said Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens according to a post on Platform X. "This time, smugglers had abandoned the subjects to fend for themselves. Fortunately, the agents were able to safely locate & remove the subjects."

The discovery comes after over 30 dangerous human smuggling schemes were disrupted in the El Paso sector in Aug., as stated by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release.

A press release quoted El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez, who highlighted that the cartels "continue to recklessly endanger the lives of the human beings they smuggle, inside vehicles, for their own financial gain" with no regard for the lives of those they transport.

"Human smuggling in the United States is a federal crime. The El Paso Sector works diligently with our U.S. Attorney partners in the West Texas District and the State of New Mexico to prosecute smugglers that endanger these human lives," said Chavez.
