Rep. Thompson: 'The Disarming Cartels Act will help us secure our border'

California Representative Mike Thompson along with New York Representative Dan Goldman and Texas Representative Joaquin Castro recently introduced the "Disarming Cartels Act" aimed at combating illegal weapons and ammunition trade across the southern border. Rep Thomson expressed his support for the bill in a Nov 14th press release.

"Firearms purchased in the United States are being illegally trafficked to Mexico, arming the cartels and fueling the fentanyl epidemic, Going after the bad actors that facilitate the exchange of guns for fentanyl will help us crack down on illegal drug trade while preventing firearms from getting into the hands of cartels and other criminal organizations. The Disarming Cartels Act will help us secure our border, reduce the flow of fentanyl in our country, and disrupt the illegal flow of firearms into Mexico. As Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, I’m proud to support this important bill with Reps. Goldman, Castro, Titus, Danny Davis, and Eleanor Holmes Norton.", said Mike Thompson.

According to a press release, Mexico experiences approximately 30 thousand deaths by firearms each year despite there only being "one gun store" in this country. Over 500,000 guns manufactured in U.S are annually trafficked across its border with most guns obtained from crime scenes within Mexico traced back to America. Crime organizations located south of its border purchase these weapons from United states to carry out their operations.

In what appears to be duplicated information from a previous paragraph; it is noted again that according to a press release Mexico experiences about 30 thousand deaths caused by firearms yearly despite there only being "one gun store" present within it's borders. Additionally over half a million U.S manufactured guns find their way across this international boundary each year with most found at crime scenes within Mexico having originated from America. Organized crime groups operating south of this border acquire these weapons from United states using them within their operations.
