Acting Chief Patrol Agent: 'Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended 21 convicted sex offenders'

Border Patrol agents near the Del Rio sector continue to apprehend sex offenders who are trying to enter the U.S. illegally. This is part of an ongoing operation aimed at ensuring national security and maintaining public safety.

"In less than two months, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended 21 convicted sex offenders attempting to enter the country illegally. Due to the hard work and dedication of our agents, these dangerous individuals were not able to enter our country. Great work! #lawenforcement", said Juan G. Bernal.

This recent development follows another significant enforcement action.The news comes on the heels that Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio sector arrested a Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang member and four convicted sex offenders when they tried to enter the country illegally in April, according to a press release.


Furthermore, specific cases reveal detailed accounts of their actions.On April 19, Eagle Pass South Station agents encountered a group of nine people attempting to avoid detection near El Indio and arrested Juan Manuel Balderas-Tristan, 39, a Mexican national, who was convicted of a sexual offense in Dallas, in 2014, according to a news release. Balderas-Tristan was sentenced to two years confinement and was most recently deported in 2016.

A series of arrests continued throughout the month,Later in the month, Brackettville Station agents apprehended Enrique Catalan-Brito, 37, a Mexican national convicted of felony sexual abuse, in Oregon, in 2013. According to the media release, Catalan-Brito who was recently deported in 2022 was sentenced to 120 months in jail.

The next case involves an individual from Central America."Eagle Pass North Station agents encountered Ruben Almandarez-Contreras, a 56-year-old Salvadoran national attempting to avoid detection near the Eagle Pass Port of Entry," the news release stated. "He was apprehended and transported to a processing center. Record checks revealed Almandarez-Contreras was convicted of felony sexual abuse in New York, in 2002. Almandarez-Contreras was sentenced to 10 years probation. He was most recently deported in 2006."

The final case sheds light on another repeat offender.Arturo Angeles-Cruz, 47, a Mexican national, was arrested on April 23 by Del Rio Station agents after a records check notified them that he had been convicted of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, in North Carolina, in 2010. He was sentenced to 15 years confinement and was most recently deported in 2022.
