Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to highlight border security measures he believes have protected the state because of perceived federal government inaction. These efforts are part of Operation Lone Star, a multi-agency initiative aimed at curbing the flow of illegal activities and immigration into Texas.
"Through #OperationLoneStar, @TXMilitary, @TxDPS, and law enforcement partners work around the clock to combat drug cartel and human smuggling activity. Texas will continue to protect our state and nation from President Biden's open border policies.", said Greg Abbott.
Operation Lone Star represents a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas National Guard. The initiative seeks to stem the influx of immigrants, drugs, weapons, and other contraband into Texas.
The governor asserted back in July that "Texas is the only governmental body in the United States of America that's actually preventing people from entering our country illegally," emphasizing that "It's only Texas that is abiding by the Constitution, using our constitutional authority to deny illegal immigrants access to our country."
As stated in a media release from August 2022 onwards, Texas has transported over 25,900 migrants to New York City, 21,100 migrants to Chicago since November 2022. From April 2022 onward, another 2,500 migrants have been transported to Washington D.C., while since May 18 more than 7,800 migrants have been taken to Denver and more than 1,100 migrants relocated to Los Angeles since June 14.
Accordingly with another media statement from the governor’s office; Operation Lone Star is instrumental in bolstering border security by addressing vulnerabilities caused by what they see as an inability on behalf of the Biden Administration’s inability to safeguard America against open border policies.
In response to allegations by the Department of Justice claiming that deploying floating marine barriers in the Rio Grande River was breaching federal law, Abbott responded in July that "It is in the public interest of Texas to be safeguarding and securing our border from people entering the United States illegally." He stressed further that "What the State of Texas is doing through those buoys is not in violation of the statute. Texas is defending its sovereignty and constitutional right to secure the border of our state and our country."
