Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Mike Bost and Majority Whip Tom Emmer recently hosted a roundtable discussion with Speaker Mike Johnson and various Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs). The purpose of the discussion was to address the needs and priorities of our nation's veterans and their families.
Chairman Bost expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to hear directly from the VSOs, stating, "As Chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I always appreciate hearing from our Veteran Service Organization partners to keep a pulse on what’s important to everyday veterans across the country." He also commended Whip Emmer and Speaker Johnson for hosting the important stakeholder discussion, emphasizing the importance of continuing to fight for the men and women who have served.
Whip Emmer echoed Chairman Bost's sentiments, acknowledging the debt of gratitude owed to our service members and veterans. He highlighted the efforts of House Republicans in passing legislation that best supports the veteran community, affirming their commitment to never stop fighting for those who have sacrificed so much for our country.
Speaker Johnson emphasized Congress's moral obligation to repay the debt of gratitude owed to our veterans. He expressed gratitude to the VSOs for their participation in the roundtable discussion and thanked Whip Emmer and Chairman Bost for their efforts in supporting America's veterans.
The roundtable discussion was attended by several members of Congress, including Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler and Representatives Jack Bergman, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Gregory F. Murphy, Scott Franklin, Derrick Van Orden, Morgan Luttrell, Keith Self, and Jennifer Kiggans. Representatives from various VSOs were also present, including America’s Warrior Partnership, AMVETS, Blinded Veterans Association, Blue Star Families, Disabled American Veterans, Elizabeth Dole Foundation, Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the U.S., Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Military Officers Association of America, Mission Roll Call, National Association of Atomic Veterans, National Association of State Approving Agencies, Inc., National Defense Committee, National Organization of Veterans’ Advocates, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Student Veterans of America, The American Legion, The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America, and Wounded Warrior Project.
The roundtable discussion provided an important platform for dialogue between lawmakers and VSOs, allowing for a better understanding of the needs and priorities of our veterans. It demonstrated the commitment of House Republicans to continue delivering for veterans, their families, and their survivors in the coming years.
