The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has launched a new website to provide stakeholders with Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) renewal and transition information. This initiative is part of the Biden administration's aim to enroll more individuals in health coverage programs.
In an HHS news release, it was revealed that data was collected from various federal entities to furnish people with updated details about their state’s renewal process for Medicaid or CHIP, as well as guidance on how they can renew their health insurance. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services led this effort, providing the information accessed on the new centralized hub with the goal of simplifying the process for those seeking to renew or transition their health coverage.
HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra stated, "Nobody who is eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program should be disenrolled simply because they didn’t have enough information about the renewal process." He added, "We encourage our partners to utilize this new resource hub to help ensure children and families have the coverage that’s right for them. We also urge states to join us in partnering with local governments and community organizations to reach people eligible for Medicaid and CHIP where they are."
According to the release, the webpage offers information in multiple languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese. The site was designed with a view towards reaching diverse racial and ethnic communities as well as individuals in rural areas. It also targets recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and/or Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
The news release further mentioned that HHS collaborated with state Medicaid agencies to simplify Medicaid and CHIP renewals for people by developing strategies that provide assistance on federal requirements and address operational concerns. HHS is also leading outreach and advertising efforts aimed at raising awareness about regular Medicaid and CHIP renewals.
