Thomas Homan, the retired acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), recently testified at a House committee hearing, alleging that President Joe Biden has undermined border security through open border policies.
Homan offered a scathing critique of the current administration's approach to border control. He stated, "President Biden is the first President to ever un-secure a border on purpose". He further elaborated on his concerns by adding, "The current administration’s failure to enforce and uphold the laws as written by Congress are not just matters of legal debate but have led to unimaginable suffering and death for Americans and migrants alike." Homan concluded his testimony with a grim assessment: "For three years, this Administration has directed and overseen the implementation of an open-borders agenda that has resulted in a national security, humanitarian, public health, and public safety catastrophe unlike any we have ever witnessed at America’s borders."
According to a recent press release from the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, chaired by James Comer, a hearing was held to scrutinize the Biden administration’s policies at the southern border. The committee suggested these policies have "sparked the worst border crisis in American history". The hearing featured testimonies from law enforcement officials and immigration policy experts who argued for more restrictive border measures to stem migration and crime.
The press release highlighted Comer's testimony where he underscored the "policy problem" at the border. Comer maintained that policy issues rather than funding remain central to addressing the border crisis. He expressed opposition towards allocating more funds to the Biden administration. "A blank check means more agency memos and rulemaking to undermine the rule of immigration law in this country," said Comer.
As stated on its website, one of the main objectives of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability is ensuring federal accountability across various sectors including national security, information technology, economic growth, and border control.
